Electricity Unit Price in Pakistan 2026: Per Unit Rate & Slabs

The electricity unit price in Pakistan depends on your monthly units and whether you are a protected or non-protected consumer. Under NEPRA’s 2026 tariff schedule (S.R.O. 279(I)/2026), domestic rates run from Rs 3.95 per unit for lifeline users to Rs 47.20 per unit for homes using more than 700 units. Protected homes pay Rs 10.54 for the first 100 units and Rs 13.01 for 101–200 units. On top of this come a per-kW fixed charge, fuel adjustments and taxes. The same slab rates apply across all distribution companies, including LESCO, IESCO, MEPCO, FESCO, GEPCO and PESCO.

Who Is a Protected Consumer?

A domestic consumer is generally treated as protected if they used 200 units or less in each of the last six months. Using even one month above 200 units can move you to the non-protected category, where rates are much higher. In November 2026, sources reported that the IMF agreed to continue subsidies for protected consumers using up to 200 units for another six months.

Lifeline Consumers

Lifeline consumers are low-income households with a small sanctioned load (usually up to 1 kW) and very low monthly use. They pay Rs 3.95 for up to 50 units and Rs 7.74 for 51–100 units, are exempt from the new fixed charge, and are excluded from most fuel and quarterly adjustments.

Why One Extra Unit Can Double Your Bill

If a protected home uses 200 units, it pays the protected rates of Rs 10.54 and Rs 13.01. If it uses 201 units, it becomes non-protected (for the next six months), and its units are billed at much higher non-protected rates, plus a higher fixed charge. That is why many families keep a close eye on the 200-unit limit, especially in summer and when using electric heaters in winter.

New Adjustments in November 2026 Bills

  • Fuel charge adjustment: NEPRA approved about Rs 2.37 per unit extra for September’s fuel cost, to be charged in November bills. It does not apply to lifeline and prepaid consumers.
  • Quarterly adjustment: an extra Rs 0.52 per unit is being charged in September, October and November 2026 bills.

How to Calculate Your Electricity Bill

  1. Find your units consumed from the bill or meter.
  2. Check whether you are protected or non-protected.
  3. Multiply units by the slab rate. Protected consumers get the telescopic benefit (first 100 units at the lower rate). Non-protected consumers are billed at the rate of the slab their total falls in.
  4. Add the fixed charge: rate per kW × your sanctioned load.
  5. Add FCA, quarterly adjustment, GST (18%), electricity duty and TV fee.
Example homeEnergy charge (Rs)Fixed charge (Rs)Base bill before taxes (Rs)
Protected, 150 units, 1 kW1,704.503002,004.50
Non-protected, 250 units, 2 kW8,2757008,975

The examples show how crossing 200 units changes the bill sharply. Actual bills will be higher after adjustments and taxes.

Tips to Reduce Your Electricity Bill

  • Try to stay at or below 200 units every month to keep protected status.
  • Use inverter ACs and LED lights; switch off devices on standby.
  • In winter, an electric heater can add 1–2 units per hour; compare with gas options on our heater price in Pakistan page.
  • Electric geysers use a lot of power; use a timer or a hybrid geyser. See geyser price in Pakistan.
  • Check your meter reading against the bill every month.
