Education is very important in the success of any nation, and this is one of the core reasons for which Pakistan is still considered as a developing country even after 65 years of Independence. Pakistan is one of those countries which have the lowest literacy rates in the world as we are on the 29th rank in the literacy rate in the countries of Asia. Although a lot is being done all over the country to improve the education, in which Punjab is leading all the provinces but still a lot has to be done so that our education standards should meet the standards of developed countries of the world and we should raise our Literacy Rate.
What Steps Can Be Taken by Government To Improve Literacy Rate In Pakistan
The following steps which should be taken by the government to improve the literacy rate in the country especially in Punjab;
- The very initial step to improve the literacy rate of Punjab is that the government should make the acquiring of primary education as compulsory on every child in the province, in such cases those 4.6 million children which are still not a part of any educational institutions will be able to play their role and contribute in improving the literacy rate.
- The primary education should be made free of cost for everyone as the government should bear the cost of this education because in Punjab mainly the people are associated with the cultivation and farming, so they can’t afford the high educational cost for which they prefer their children to assist them in their farms rather than going to school. Once the primary education will be free than the parents will not be having any legitimate excuse of not sending their children to schools.
